Dangote refinery exports 456,000 tonnes of petroleum products to African countries

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced the successful sale of 12 cargoes of refined petroleum products, totalling 456,000 tonnes (456KT).

Speaking to journalists on Sunday, the company said the shipments — handled by traders — were delivered to countries including Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tanzania, Ghana, and Togo, marking its petrol export milestone since reaching a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day in February.

“The products were sold on a FOB (Free on Board) basis to the end international traders for deliveries to the above-identified countries of export,” the refinery said.

“This accomplishment underscores the Dangote Refinery’s capability to not only meet but exceed Nigeria’s domestic fuel demands.

“It also demonstrates the refinery’s growing role in supplying high-quality Euro 5 gasoline and diesel to West Africa — a region long underserved and historically regarded as a dumping ground for lower-quality fuels, and other regions which have become destinations of exports.”

The company added that supplying fuel to neighbouring and other African countries positions it to enhance energy security across West, East, and Central Africa.

According to the refinery, this strategy helps reduce logistics and supply chain delays associated with long-distance fuel imports, lowers cost pressures in regional markets through closer sourcing, and strengthens trade relationships between Nigeria and other African economies.

It also noted that several African countries that previously relied on major refineries in the Persian Gulf are now turning to the Dangote refinery as an alternative source.
