DAPPMAN demands FRSC probe Dangote drivers

The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has urged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to investigate the Dangote Group’s transport operations, alleging that the company’s drivers have been repeatedly involved in fatal accidents.

The call comes after Dangote unveiled 4,000 compressed natural gas-powered trucks to supply petroleum products nationwide. DAPPMAN warned that adding thousands of trucks without rigorous safety audits, retraining, and vetting of drivers could heighten risks on Nigeria’s already strained roads.

The association also accused the refinery of undermining regulators by alleging that DAPPMAN members smuggle products to neighbouring countries. It gave the company a seven-day ultimatum to provide proof or retract the claim, threatening legal action if it fails to comply.

DAPPMAN further alleged that Dangote is pushing for downstream monopoly under the guise of patriotism, while restricting Nigerian marketers’ access to its refinery products. It also rejected suggestions that it sponsored NUPENG’s recent strike threats, insisting that industry unions are independent.

The group demanded fair competition, transparency, and equal access, stressing that Nigeria’s fuel supply chain “cannot depend on a single refinery.”
