The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says the number of metered electricity customers in the country increased to 6,579,818 in August.
In its ‘metering status of distribution companies’ factsheet for July and August, released on Monday, the commission noted a 1.09 percent rise from the 6,508,611 metered customers recorded in the previous month.
The document also showed that the total number of active customers across all electricity distribution companies (DisCos) went up by 0.53 percent, rising from 11,897,246 in July to 11,960,101 in August.
NERC reported that 70,888 customers were metered in August, compared to 76,783 in July, “reflecting ongoing metering efforts across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI)”.
According to the factsheet, the metering rate for August stood at 55.01 percent, an increase from 54.71 percent in July.
The report listed the top-performing DisCos for August as Eko (84.25 percent), Ikeja (84.83 percent), and Abuja (73.92 percent).
NERC said the lowest metering levels were recorded by Yola DisCo (28.65 percent), Jos DisCo (29.61 percent), and Kaduna DisCo (33.60 percent).
“These figures highlight gradual progress in closing Nigeria’s metering gap and improving transparency and billing accuracy for electricity consumers,” NERC said.
In a previous update, NERC disclosed that total revenue “collected” by power distribution companies (DisCos) reached N1.58 trillion within the first eight months of 2025.
The commission said this marks a year-on-year increase of 50.48 percent compared to the N1.05 trillion generated in the same period in 2024.
