‘We regret the inconvenience,’ First Bank announces service disruption on mobile app, USSD channels

Customers of First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) may experience delayed or declined transactions on its digital banking platforms due to a temporary service disruption.

The bank announced the development in a statement on Thursday.

According to First Bank, the downtime is affecting transactions carried out via FirstMobile, FirstOnline, and its USSD platform, with other banks.

“Please be informed that we are currently experiencing some downtime affecting transactions to other banks on FirstMobile, FirstOnline, and USSD platforms. Customers may therefore experience delayed or declined transactions,” the statement reads.

“We regret the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.”

The financial institution assured customers that its technical team, in collaboration with partner service providers, would provide updates when normalcy returns

The bank advised customers to use alternative channels such as FirstMonie Wallet and debit cards for urgent transactions.

For enquiries or complaints, FirstBank directed customers to reach its contact centre via phone or email.

The development comes a few weeks after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) issued a directive to all commercial banks, microfinance banks, mobile money operators, and other licensed participants in the Nigerian payments ecosystem, mandating full migration to the ISO 20022 standard for payment messaging by October 31.
