Police kill suspected kidnappers, rescue abductees in Delta, Katsina

Police authorities, in collaboration with other security agencies, have achieved significant breakthroughs in their ongoing efforts to combat violent crimes across the country. Recent successes include the rescue of abducted individuals, the neutralization of suspected kidnappers, and the recovery of large caches of illegal firearms and ammunition in Delta and Katsina states.

In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi highlighted a major operation in Katsina State on June 8, 2025. A Joint Task Force (JTF), comprising police and other security operatives, thwarted a kidnapping attempt along the Danmusa–Mara Dangeza village road in Danmusa Local Government Area. The operation culminated in a gun battle with armed bandits, resulting in the rescue of eleven kidnapped victims.

In Delta State, police operatives attached to the CP-Special Assignment Team apprehended Abubakar Hassan, a key member of an interstate kidnapping syndicate operating across Delta, Rivers, Imo, and Enugu states. Acting on credible intelligence, officers detained Hassan, who admitted to leading kidnapping operations along the Ughelli-Ozoro axis. He subsequently led authorities to a hideout in Ozoro forest, where two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and thirty-two rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

Additionally, a joint operation involving police officers and local hunters in the Abraka railway area last week led to the death of four suspected kidnappers. The coordinated raid, conducted in the early hours of June 4, also resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and live ammunition.
