The Ashanti Regional Police Command announced the arrests in a statement released on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and signed by the Head of its Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-driven operation carried out at about 11:30 p.m. on October 31. The operation was conducted by a special team constituted by the Inspector-General of Police, comprising officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
The operation initially led to the arrest of Aboy Promise and Favour Uwalaka at a hotel in Moshie Zongo, where a search reportedly uncovered GH¢1,600 in cash, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle and a master key suspected to have been used to gain unauthorised access to vehicles belonging to bank customers.
The police said the two suspects, during interrogation, allegedly admitted involvement in the robberies and identified two other accomplices, including Kingsley, alias KC, and Chinedu, alias Alhaji.
Acting on information provided by the suspects, security operatives subsequently proceeded to another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley was arrested.
However, Chinedu remains at large, prompting the police to appeal to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist in his arrest.
Providing details of the alleged criminal operation, the police said preliminary investigations indicated that the syndicate monitored banking facilities, identified customers who withdrew substantial amounts of money and followed them before robbing them.
The suspects were also accused of breaking into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers using a master key to steal cash and other valuables.
The police further disclosed that the arrested suspects allegedly confessed to robbing a bank customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, 2026, shortly after the victim withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They also reportedly admitted involvement in similar incidents around the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi and its environs.
The three suspects have since been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, the police have urged bank customers to remain vigilant, particularly when withdrawing large sums of money, and to be cautious of suspicious persons around banking premises.
The Command also warned motorists against leaving cash and other valuables unattended inside their vehicles.
Members of the public with information regarding the whereabouts of the fleeing suspect have been encouraged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Ghana Police Service through its emergency numbers 191, 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling robbery and other criminal activities across the Ashanti Region while commending residents for their continued cooperation.
