An Ekiti-born candidate who sat for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Ogun State, Owoeye Jesudunsin, has emerged as the highest scorer with 372 out of 400 marks.
JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, announced this on Monday during the 2026 admission policy meeting in Abuja.
According to Oloyede, Jesudunsin selected the University of Lagos as her first-choice institution to study Medicine and Surgery.
The registrar noted that the score is three points lower than the highest mark recorded in 2025, when Chinedu Okeke from Anambra State scored 375.
Ikenna Enwere from Imo State came second with 370 marks after sitting for the examination in Lagos. He chose Nile University, Abuja, to study Computer Science.
Ayomide Bamisile from Ondo State placed third with 369 marks and selected the Federal University of Technology, Akure as first choice to study Software Engineering.
Oloyede also disclosed that JAMB plans to introduce a “Bring your own device” option for UTME candidates starting from 2027.
He explained that candidates would be allowed to use personal devices for the examination, while a flash drive would be inserted to prevent malpractice.
According to him, the innovation would reduce costs, improve convenience and address complaints from candidates whose computers malfunction during examinations.
He added that more innovations would be introduced before the 2027 examinations to ensure smoother conduct of the process.
Stakeholders at the meeting also agreed on deadlines for the completion of the 2026 admission process across tertiary institutions.
Public universities are expected to conclude admissions on or before October 31, 2026, while private universities have until November 30, 2026.
Polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education were advised to complete their admission processes by December 31, 2026.
Oloyede warned institutions to strictly adhere to the approved timelines, stressing that institutions that fail to conclude admissions before the deadline would lose access to candidates for that admission cycle.
He also stated that candidates offered admission must accept it within four weeks or risk losing the offer and becoming ineligible for further consideration during the session.
