The Federal Ministry of Education has published the final list of ranked and approved textbooks for primary and secondary schools across Nigeria for the 2026–2028 academic sessions.
Boriowo Folasade, the ministry’s director of press and public relations, said in a statement on Monday that the publication followed the completion of the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise.
The approved titles cover textbooks for Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS 1) and Senior Secondary School 1 (SS 1).
“Each approved title carries a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code, alongside key details including the title, author(s), publisher and year of publication, to facilitate identification, monitoring and accountability,” the statement reads.
“The exercise was conducted under the guidance and leadership of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, and the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, with the final list approved by the Honourable Minister of Education.”
The ministry said assigning ranking and QR tracking codes to the approved textbooks would strengthen monitoring and control of instructional materials while improving transparency in their selection, procurement and use.
It explained that the additional process of producing and assigning unique codes to each ranked textbook contributed to the time needed to complete and validate the final lists.
The ministry also said the ranking exercise is being carried out in phases. With the first phase completed and approved, preparations will now begin for the second phase, which will cover textbooks for Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SS 2.
“The same identification and tracking measures will apply to the subsequent phase,” the statement said.
“The Federal Ministry of Education urges publishers, schools, education authorities, procurement agencies and other relevant stakeholders to consult the official approved list when selecting and procuring textbooks for the affected classes.”
The ministry further urged stakeholders to comply with the approved list when providing and using textbooks for the specified classes.
For Primary 1, approved Mathematics textbooks include STAN PLACE Mathematics, Eduwaves Mathematics, New Mathematics, Extension Modern Mathematics, New Waves Mathematics, Marvelous Mathematics and Royal Intensive Mathematics.
For Primary 4, Reddot Complete Primary Mathematics, Everyday Mathematics and Smart Mathematics were shortlisted alongside some of the titles approved for Primary 1.
For JSS 1, approved Mathematics textbooks include Meybiks Mathematics, Digital Mathematics, New Excellent Mathematics, Ideal Tutor Mathematics, Progress in Mathematics, New Concept Mathematics and International Brainy Mathematics.
For English Language, Reddot Interactive Primary English, New Smart English, Eduwaves Proper English, Extension Modern English, Tanus New Basic English, Marvelous English Studies and Ideal Tutor Core English were approved for Primary 1 and Primary 4.
The same titles were approved for JSS 1, while approved SS 1 titles include New Concept Mathematics, Binana Series Mathematics and Senior Secondary New Concept English, among others.
