Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) on Thursday staged a protest at the University of Abuja’s main campus.
The demonstration forms part of a nationwide action declared by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of both unions after the expiration of a two-week ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to address their welfare concerns.
The protesting workers are demanding the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement with the government, the immediate implementation of the 25 and 35 per cent salary increases, and the payment of all withheld salaries.
Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the protesters urged the government to act swiftly to prevent an impending industrial crisis in the nation’s universities.
