51-year-old woman dies after undergoing six cosmetic procedures in one surgery

A 51-year-old woman has died after undergoing six cosmetic procedures during an eight-hour surgery in Goiânia, Brazil.

Andreia Vieira Gaspar, who was living in Spain, reportedly spent two years saving 118,000 Brazilian reals, approximately $22,918, for the procedures.

The surgery included a facelift, blepharoplasty, liposuction and facial fat grafting, among other procedures.

According to G1, Andreia died on August 12, several days after undergoing the surgery.

Her sister, Djiane Vieira, has called for answers over the circumstances surrounding her death, alleging that Andreia did not undergo a pre-procedure consultation in Brazil.

She also claimed that her sister’s pre-operative tests were carried out in Spain rather than Brazil.

Djiane said Andreia’s tongue became severely swollen after the procedure. She said she attempted to contact the medical team but believed her sister did not receive adequate medical attention.

She further alleged that Ankar Hospital, where Andreia was receiving treatment, did not have an intensive care unit or an emergency ambulance.

According to Djiane, her sister eventually died in her arms after medical personnel made several attempts to resuscitate her.

Lessandro Martins, a doctor involved in the procedure, declined to discuss Andreia’s medical condition, citing patient confidentiality.

“Out of respect for medical confidentiality — which persists even after death, as mandated by the Medical Code of Ethics — no interviews will be granted, nor will comments be made regarding clinical data,” he said in a legal statement.

Martins added that he was confident the investigation would establish that the care provided to Andreia was appropriate.

Meanwhile, a lawyer representing Ankar Hospital said Andreia received immediate emergency treatment after complications developed.

The lawyer also said “necessary measures were taken” to treat her.

The circumstances surrounding Andreia’s death are expected to be investigated by the relevant authorities.

The case comes around the same time as the death of Nigerian-British influencer Igho ‘Tiny’ Ubiribo, who reportedly died after undergoing a penis enlargement procedure.

Ubiribo died in March at the age of 43 and was buried in London in May in a gold coffin.

The Department of Health Service Support (DHSS), under Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health, said the businessman had received four penile enlargement injections between 2024 and 2025, with the fifth being the procedure he underwent before his death.
