Actress Rita Edochie has condemned the perceived normalisation of child abuse and inappropriate connections with adolescents under the age of 18 in Nigeria.
She chastised social media platforms for promoting and justifying such behaviour, claiming that their excuses are commonly regarded as unacceptable.
In an Instagram post, Edochie expressed his displeasure at the glamorisation of immoral behaviour, denying suggestions that provocative content is simply a marketing gimmick for fame.
She emphasised that success should not depend on unethical actions, rejecting the idea that such tactics are necessary for recognition.rit
The actress also raised concerns about families exposing impressionable children to morally questionable content, such as music or media that appears to promote immorality.
Edochie lamented the growing acceptance of these trends, calling for greater societal accountability.
She wrote: “Immorality at its highest peak. When did child abuse become legal? When did keeping an affair with an underage (less than 18) become a thing to be proud of? The sickening thing here is that social media is not even helping matters; they hype and take sides with this evil with reasons that are never justifiable. Don’t even tell me it’s a makeup controversy for promotion and recognition, because one must not be stupid to attain success. May God Almighty help this generation? Some irresponsible families will carelessly engage with their ignorant kids as per vibing to the so-called song of immorality that is being dropped. Everything has just been normalized in this country; immorality is highly celebrated, Tufiakwa.”
