Tomeka Thiam, the longtime wife of Senegalese-American singer Akon, has filed for divorce after almost 30 years of marriage.
According to TMZ, court documents indicate that Thiam, who wed the Grammy-nominated artist on September 15, 1996, listed irreconcilable differences as the cause of the separation.
The divorce filing was submitted just four days ahead of what would have marked their 29th wedding anniversary.
The documents also note that the couple has a 17-year-old daughter named Journey.
Tomeka is requesting joint legal custody but wants sole physical custody of the teenager, with visitation rights granted to the ‘Smack That’ singer.
She is also seeking spousal support and has asked the court to block the possibility of Akon receiving any from her.
