Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake has been confirmed as the most-streamed artiste on Spotify in Nigeria, based on figures published by the streaming service.
The announcement aligns with Spotify’s commemoration of five years of operations in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.
“Celebrating 5 years of Spotify in Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana, powered by you,” the company said in a statement.
Dominating the Nigerian charts
Asake led a ranking that featured top Nigerian acts including Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, and Seyi Vibez. His hit single “Remember” was the most-streamed track in the country, while “Lonely at the Top” also ranked among the top five songs.
The platform attributed its expansion to listeners’ engagement, disclosing that users in Nigeria have generated more than 25 million playlists over the past five years.
The average Nigerian listener on the platform is aged 26, underscoring the impact of a youthful and digitally savvy audience.
A distinctive sound with viral appeal
Asake’s rise has been propelled by his unique blend of street pop, contemporary Afrobeats, and high-energy dance records that have gained traction on platforms such as TikTok.
His album “Lungu Boy” set a new benchmark as the first African project to top Spotify’s global debut chart, further strengthening his standing as a prominent force within Afrobeats.
As Spotify continues to expand across the region, Asake’s latest recognition highlights the growing international influence of Nigerian music and the sustained dominance of Afrobeats across digital streaming platforms.
