“Asking for N1m and above,” — Peller calls out Yorubas begging for money

Popular social media personality Peller has sparked widespread criticism following controversial comments about Yoruba people during a recent live session, where he described their way of asking for money as “premium and threatening.”

During the broadcast, Peller, who identified himself as Yoruba, alleged that individuals from the ethnic group often make bold financial requests, sometimes asking for large sums without hesitation.

The remark quickly gained traction across social media platforms, generating mixed reactions from viewers.

“I’m a Yoruba boy but Yoruba people beg a lot. Their begging is premium and threatening; telling you to give them 1 million naira or above,” he said.

The clip has since circulated widely, with many users accusing him of stereotyping and showing disrespect towards his own ethnic group.

While some supporters defended the statement as humorous and reflective of personal experience, others criticised it as insensitive and divisive.

In recent years, several Nigerian influencers have faced backlash over comments perceived as tribalistic, often resulting in public apologies and calls for more responsible use of social media.

As of the time of filing this report, Peller had yet to issue any formal clarification or apology regarding the statement.
