The youngest child of late veteran Yoruba actor Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, Halimat Omidina, has opened up about the final moments she shared with her father before his death.
Baba Suwe died on November 22, 2021, aged 63. He would have turned 68 on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Halimat, a model and content creator, reflected on her father’s life and death in posts shared on her X account, @superstarrlimaa, on Saturday to mark his posthumous birthday.
In an emotional tribute, she described how difficult it was to celebrate the occasion without her father, recalling the special moments they shared while he was alive.
“Happy posthumous birthday, Daddy. Today feels so different, no crowd, no jollof rice, no you in your new shirt,” she wrote.
She also expressed regret over not making more memories with him and wished she had held him more tightly when he spoke about his impending death.
“I wish I made more memories with you and hugged you tighter when you told me you’d die. May Allah have mercy on you and grant you Jannatul Firdaus,” she added.
In another post, Halimat revealed that her father had told her he would die two days before his passing, but she did not take the statement seriously because she assumed he was joking.
“This could’ve been my mood today. Someone asked if Daddy ever told me he was going to die. Yes, he did. Two days before, he told me, but I laughed it off. I thought he was joking,” she wrote.
She recalled receiving a phone call the following day asking her to return home because her father’s condition had deteriorated.
According to Halimat, Baba Suwe was unable to speak by the time she arrived and died about an hour later.
“The next day, I got a call to come home. He couldn’t talk anymore, and an hour later, he passed,” she added.
Baba Suwe was a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry and featured in several popular movies, including Iru Esin, Baba Londoner, Oju Oloju and Baba Jaiye Jaiye.
His wife and actress, Omoladun Omidina, popularly known as Moladun, died in 2009.
