Boredom made me a skit maker – Lizzy Jay

Actress and Skit maker Lizzy Jay claims that before her success in skit-making, her first goals were to become a singer and a doctor.

In an interview with Nollywood On Radio, the actress and sketch creator talked candidly about her early professional goals.

Lizzy revealed that she first prioritised medicine and music over comedy.

She clarified that her foray into the world of skit-making started out of pure boredom while she was living alone at home.

“Nothing was on my mind when I started making skit; what was on my mind was to do music, go to school, and become a medical doctor,” she said.

“So skit making was a way of killing boredom. I was home alone, had my phone and I needed to do something.

“It wasn’t like I planned or saw people doing skits and thought to copy. I was just bored, and I started making a skit.”

Lizzy added that her perspective changed when one of her skits gained unexpected attention. She said after posting a video on Facebook, it was widely shared by several celebrities, including Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde.

“I knew my skit was beyond just a boredom killer after one of my skits, which I posted on my page on Facebook, was reposted by several celebrities including Omotola Jolade on Instagram. So, at the point I just thought I need to continue what I started,” she said.

Lizzy first gained recognition as a skit maker before transitioning into acting. She has appeared in several Nollywood films, including ‘Dear Affy,’ ‘Dubara,’ and ‘The Order of Things’.
