Afrobeats musician Skales has stood up for Burna Boy, asking supporters to honour the Grammy-winning musician’s name and reputation.
He voiced his annoyance at the proliferation of misleading material and misquotes ascribed to Burna Boy, highlighting the need for more awareness and responsibility in online conversation.
Skales stated that Burna Boy should not be addressed in a casual or familiar manner because he does not socialise with anyone.
He pleaded with people to stop spreading false statements or rumours about Burna Boy.
Skales said: “Pls and please put some respect on Burna’s name … Burna is not anybody’s mate, including me … I’ve been seeing some b.s fly around that is made up. Burna never said that … leave that man alone. Much respect to Odg.”
Recall that Skales had claimed to have inspired Burna Boy, stating that their collaboration on “Temper Remix” helped boost Burna Boy’s career.
According to Skales, Burna Boy didn’t have a hit song before the remix, and after working together, Burna Boy’s career took off.
Skales acknowledges that Burna Boy’s success is his own but believes they inspired each other.
Skales said, “I inspired Burna Boy. He will agree with me. So, nobody helps anybody. We probably admire ourselves, and we decide to work together.
“As at then, Burna Boy had no hot song before I featured him on ‘Temper Remix.’
“It was after our collaboration that he started excelling. I’m not trying to take credit for his success, but he has inspired me over the years, and I believe I inspired him at a point, too.”
