Carter Efe, a well-known skit maker and musician, has expressed his frustration with the organizers of the Headies Awards for nominating the late singer Mohbad.
According to reports, Mohbad received nominations for two categories in the 17th edition of the Headies: Best Street-Hop Artiste of the Year and the Viewers’ Choice Award for his collaboration with Chike. The singer’s widow, Omowunmi, and their son accepted the posthumous honor in Lagos on Sunday.
In response to this situation, Carter Efe shared a video on social media on Monday, accusing the award organizers of seeking attention through Mohbad’s nomination. He pointed out that the Headies had never honored Mohbad during his lifetime, questioning the sincerity of the recognition now that he has passed away.
He said in pidgin: “Why Headies dey misbehave now, them go dey nominate Mohbad? Wetin makes them nominate Mohbad? But when the boy was alive them no go give am o. Anything for the clout na him Headies go dey do.”
Reports state that Mohbad who is yet to be buried, died in September 2023 under controversial circumstances.
