Veteran Nollywood actress Chinyere Wilfred addresses the evolving nature of parenting and marriage in today’s society.
During an interview with *The Nation*, Wilfred explained that the increasing instability in families stems from the influence of Gen Z culture and a departure from traditional values.
The actress revealed that her role in the TV series inspired her to reflect on her own approach to parenting.
Wilfred stressed the need to strike a balance between shielding children and allowing them independence, noting that while it’s natural for parents to want to protect their kids, excessive protection can hinder their growth.
She said, “Parents of this generation are Gen Z parents, back our days, parents would not do most of the things we see today. Look at what is happening to marriages now, you buy Aso Ebi and before you know it, they are divorced. We were not like that before. I’ve been married for over 30 years and I’m still happily married.
“While shooting, I saw myself in that character, I realized I was overreacting with my children. During the act, I did not notice it, but while I re-watched it, I saw my faults. When I got home, I became calm with my son. Even now, despite he is a graduate, he still can’t sleep out. I thought I was protecting them, but I was overprotecting them.”
