Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy and formerly one half of the defunct music duo Psquare, has said pursuing a solo career has been much less stressful than his time with the group.
Rudeboy made this known during an interview with Luna Lifestyle TV, where he was asked whether his experience as a solo artiste had been easier than performing as part of the duo.
The singer explained that transitioning to a solo career after Psquare’s breakup was relatively smooth because he had already handled a significant portion of the group’s musical responsibilities.
According to him, he worked as the group’s producer, songwriter and vocalist, making the move to a solo career less challenging.
“Less stressful. It’s the same me that was doing it in the group, with due respect. The same me that was doing it,” he said.
“I’m the producer, I’m the writer, I’m the singer. So moving out of the group, it’s still the same thing. Like I said, less stress.
“We have a team, everybody has their own contribution, but I’m not saying the team I have doesn’t contribute. But what I mean, in the act of creating that music and whatever, I feel nobody is going to question me.”
Psquare comprised twin brothers Paul and Peter ‘Mr P’ Okoye. The duo became one of Nigeria’s most successful groups in the 2000s and 2010s, with hits including ‘Personally,’ ‘Do Me,’ ‘Chop My Money’, and ‘Beautiful Onyinye’.
