How false domestic abuse allegation hurt my career — Reality TV star

Reality TV star Teddy A has opened up about how false allegations that he was abusing his wife, Bambam, took a toll on his personal life and professional career.

In a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, Teddy A dismissed the claims, stressing that he never assaulted his wife, and explained that the domestic violence rumours negatively shaped public perception and affected how brands related with him.

The 37-year-old singer and actor said the allegations reduced his chances of securing gigs.

“When they said I was beating my wife, it was a lot for me. That day, I woke up and went downstairs. My wife was pregnant, and we were just laughing,” he said.

“I checked my phone, and I saw my notification going up, and I was like, I didn’t drop any content that is trending.”

“What did I do, or what are they saying now. Then I’m going through comments, and I am surprised. You know my wife is a bit emotional, and she started asking who would have done this.

“I thought it was probably one ex or ‘village people,’. I called my manager, and he advised me not to fuel the fire and to let it go.”

Teddy A noted that the decision not to immediately refute the claims worsened the situation, as public reactions became increasingly hostile whenever he and his wife posted online.

“It affected my image. Anytime my wife and I posted, the comments were terrible because we didn’t immediately debunk the claims.”

Born Tope Adenibuyan, Teddy A was a rapper and singer in Dallas, United States, before relocating to Nigeria. He rose to prominence after featuring on Big Brother Naija ‘Double Wahala’ season three, where he met and fell in love with Bambam.

The couple had their white wedding in Dubai in 2019 and welcomed their first child in 2020. They later announced the birth of their second child in 2022.
