I’m like father to Imisi – Yomi Fabiyi

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yomi Fabiyi has clarified that his public support for Big Brother Naija Season 10 winner, Imisi, was driven by genuine loyalty and gratitude, rather than personal or financial gain.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, Fabiyi revealed that his bond with Imisi began long before her rise to fame on reality TV, describing himself as a “father figure” to the young actress in the movie industry.

“I am an adult and like a father to her in the film industry. She was the only housemate I knew personally. Everything I do, she supports.

“For instance, when I had my housewarming, she stayed throughout and made sure the event went well. Supporting her during the show was simply the right thing to do,” he mentioned.

Fabiyi further disclosed that Imisi began her entertainment career under his guidance at his film academy.

“Imisi was one of my students at my film academy, and beyond that, she has always been supportive of me and my son. We used to live in the same area in Ikorodu, and she’s been helpful long before the fame,” he said.

When asked if he had any reservations about supporting her considering that some individuals he once helped had later turned against him, the actor stated that he doesn’t let past experiences dictate his actions.

“I don’t think about things like that. Of course, in today’s social media world, some people distance themselves from those who helped them just to appear self-made. They don’t want anyone to have bragging rights over their success,” he said.

Fabiyi, however, emphasized that he remains unbothered by such behaviour.

“No matter the level of ingratitude, I don’t let it get to me. I’ll keep doing what’s right.”
