I’ve never performed without taking alcohol – Victony

Afrobeats musician Anthony Ebuka Victor, better known by his stage name Victony, has acknowledged that he has never performed live without drinking.

The 24-year-old performer stated in an interview with Behind The Prestige that he now hopes to break this habit while on his current Stubborn tour.

Victony stated that he wants to play sober in order to establish a stronger, more direct bond with his audience. He called the change a “big challenge,” but he is excited to accept it in order to have a more genuine performance.

His ‘Stubborn’ tour, supporting his sophomore album released in June 2024, has garnered attention for its high-energy performances across cities like New York, Toronto, and London and by choosing sobriety, Victony aims to redefine his stage presence and connect more meaningfully with his audience.

He said, “I’m trying to do this tour so sober. It’s a big challenge. I have never been on stage without taking alcohol. But [for this tour], I’m trying to see my fans clearly and truly connect with them. I just want to try”.
