Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has revealed that her latest movie, Return of Arinzo, has become the highest-grossing film of the Easter weekend at the Nigerian box office.
Ojo shared the news on X on Monday, stating that the film earned N104.8m during its opening weekend, breaking several records.
“Thank you, everyone, for the love you showed us. TROA opens with N104.8m, breaking multiple records in just one weekend.
” Highest grossing Easter weekend performance, biggest opening for a Nollywood sequel. This was only possible because of you,” she wrote.
The movie’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, also confirmed the achievement on Instagram, describing the debut as a significant statement at the box office.
“₦104.8M in its opening weekend, biggest Easter opening, and the highest-grossing film of the weekend,” the distributor stated.
FilmOne emphasized that the film’s success reflects strong audience engagement and support across West Africa.
“But beyond the numbers, this is what it looks like when a story connects… when people see themselves on screen and show up for it. West Africa, you didn’t just watch, you showed up… you filled the cinemas,” it added.
Return of Arinzo is a sequel to the 2013 Yoruba hit Arinzo, which focused on themes of crime and personal transformation.
The original film was directed by Abiodun Olanrewaju and Muhydeen S. Ayinde, featuring a mix of Nollywood and Ghallywood actors.
The new release has also sparked attention beyond its box office numbers, following a viral moment at its Lagos premiere involving Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.
A circulating video shows Abraham attempting to greet Akindele, who seemingly did not respond, generating reactions on social media.
