The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed that actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, widely known as Baba Ijesha, has been officially added to its sex offenders register.
The clarification comes after confusion recently circulated about his legal status.
Last week, actor Yomi Fabiyi claimed that Baba Ijesha had regained freedom after an appellate court allegedly overturned his conviction.
But the Lagos State Government strongly denied the claim. The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, criticised Fabiyi’s statement, describing it as “false, misleading, and irresponsible.”
He expressed shock at the social media posts alleging exoneration, stating unequivocally, “No such clearance occurred at any stage of the judicial process”.
The DSVA issued a short statement to settle the debate on whether Baba Ijesha would be formally registered as a sex offender.
Citing Section 37 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law, 2021, the agency confirmed that his name has been entered into the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register.
The agency stated that “this action” reinforces its commitment to “protecting minors, strengthening accountability, and ensuring that accurate information is available to the public”.
“In line with Section 37 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law 2021, his name has been duly entered into the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register,” the statement reads.
“This measure supports ongoing efforts to protect minors, strengthen accountability and ensure that accurate information is available to the public.”
