‘Marriage not a poverty alleviation scheme’ – Nancy Isime

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has shed light on her decision to burn the outfit she wore to the funeral of Alexx Ekubo.

Ekubo was buried last week in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, after losing a long battle with stage 4 kidney cancer. He passed away on May 11.

Speaking via her Instagram Story, Angela said her godmother instructed her to burn the dress, explaining that garments worn to burial ceremonies should not be kept. She accompanied the revelation with a video showing the outfit being set on fire.

“Marriage is not a poverty alleviation scheme but I don’t believe marrying a poor man can make you happy.

“When rent is due, school fees can’t be paid and there is no food in the house, it is difficult to have a fantastic life.

“I am not saying there is no love without money. But love and fantastic life are not the same,” she said.

She advocated for intending couples to be financially stable to a certain extent before before getting married and raising a family.
