Nigerian media star May Edochie has demanded ₦1 billion in damages from her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, accusing him of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and publishing false claims about her family.
In a cease-and-desist letter, her new legal team described his online posts as a “calculated attack” on her reputation. They said his conduct encouraged others to circulate the claims, causing “severe and irreparable harm” to her business, reputation, and safety.
May also demanded a public apology, retraction of all posts, and an undertaking to desist from further defamatory statements. The letter gave Ugwuonye 48 hours to comply.
She pursued legal action after Ugwuonye withdrew from her divorce case against actor Yul Edochie in July, citing harassment from her supporters.
May filed for divorce in 2023, seeking ₦100 million in damages after Yul revealed actress Judy Austin as his second wife in 2022.
