Popular Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile has revealed that his parents initially responded to his sudden wealth with suspicion rather than warmth.
Speaking in a recent episode of the YACN podcast, the Zanku crooner, Zlatan Ibile, said that after rising to fame in 2019, he bought a house for his parents in a highbrow area of Lekki, but they turned down the gift because they were unsure of the source of his seemingly sudden wealth.
The singer added that his parents doubted he could have acquired the expensive mansion solely from his music earnings.
“When I blew up in 2019, I bought my first house in Lekki and decided to gift it to my parents. I called them on the phone and asked them to come and they were like, ‘A house? That’s not possible. Are you doing something else apart from music? How did you buy a house worth millions in the space of one year?’,” he recalled.
Zlatan Ibile said his parents’ doubts hurt him, as he was putting them first while they questioned his intentions.
He said his parents asked for time to carry out a seven-day prayer to decide whether they should accept the offer or not.
The rapper, Zlatan Ibile, added that he had to print his bank statements and provide proof of his music earnings before they eventually accepted the house.
He also advised parents to verify the source of their children’s wealth before accepting expensive gifts from them.
