Actress and producer Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has disclosed the earnings from her cinema movie, A Mother’s Love, providing fans with a breakdown of its box office performance.
In a video shared online, Omotola revealed that the film grossed N103,094,633 during its cinema run.
She, however, explained that after deductions, the amount that accrued to the producers was N22 million.
She explained that several deductions were made from the gross earnings, including payments to exhibitors and distributors, advertising expenses, CAT, entertainment tax, VAT and withholding tax.
According to her, in line with a promise made by her production company, Red Hot Concepts, 100 per cent of the N22 million net proceeds was donated to the NGO ‘Slum to School’.
She said: “Our last cinema run was on the 19th of April; it was a beautiful day. I had a nice time at the cinema, and it was my first time doing cinema runs. It was a challenge, but I rose to the challenge, I believe. You know, as a producer, you have to show up, and that was a challenge I wasn’t ready for.
Her transparency has sparked conversations online about the realities of cinema distribution in Nollywood and the amount producers actually receive after various deductions.
Despite the significant deductions, Omotola described the film’s cinema run as a win, adding that the donation to Slum to School was part of her company’s effort to give back to society.
