Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing the outcome of the governorship election as a victory for the family.
Davido shared his reaction on Sunday through a post on his X account, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the governor the winner of the election.
“We did it, Unc (Uncle),” Davido wrote.
In an accompanying video, the singer was seen lying on the floor in celebration, while one of his aides, Israel, congratulated him.
Davido had been actively involved in his uncle’s campaign ahead of the election and consistently expressed support for the governor throughout the campaign period.
His celebration came shortly after INEC formally declared Adeleke the winner of the Osun governorship election.
The State Returning Officer, Joshua Ogunwole, announced the result at the INEC State Collation Centre in Osogbo on Sunday morning.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
The governor won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11.
Adeleke’s victories included Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Aiyedaade, Aiyedire, Odo-Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Osogbo and Ila.
Oyebamiji won in Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakunmosa West, Irewole, Atakunmosa East, Isokan, Ola-Oluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
According to the final figures announced by the returning officer, 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election, while 985,079 votes were recorded as valid.
A total of 20,721 votes were rejected, bringing the total number of votes cast to 1,005,800.
Following the collation and signing of the final results by party agents, Ogunwole formally returned Adeleke as the winner of the election.
The declaration secured another four-year term for Adeleke, who first won the Osun governorship election in 2022.
Davido’s support for his uncle has remained prominent throughout the political contest, with the singer previously using his public platform to campaign for Adeleke.
