Popular actor joins ADC, declares interest in reps seat

The Nollywood actor and producer, Zubby Michael, has formally announced his intention to contest for a seat in Nigeria’s house of representatives.

Taking to his X page, the actor unveiled his political ambition alongside a video showing him joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In the clip, he is seen receiving the party’s membership form. In his usual straightforward manner, the film star indicated he is moving beyond online commentary to active political involvement.

“I dey my village, enough of the talking online, I don involve. House of Reps, Zubby Michael is coming. ADC is the party,” he wrote.

It is gathered that the actor aims to represent Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo federal constituency of Anambra State in the next legislative election.

This is not his first involvement in politics. In 2019, he was appointed as a special adviser on media to Willie Obiano, the then governor of Anambra State.

Born Azubuike Michael Egwu, he developed an interest in storytelling early in life. He made his debut in the film ‘Missing Rib’ and has since risen to prominence in Nollywood, appearing in over 100 movies.

Some of his notable works include ‘Owambe Thieves’, ‘Three Widows’, ‘The Bride Price’, ‘Onyeegwu’, ‘Brotherhood’, ‘My Village People’, ‘Bloody Doings’, ‘Passport’, ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’ and ‘The Wildflower’.

He has also received numerous nominations and awards for his performances.
