Portable reveals he left Kwara poly, hints at resuming education

Popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has revealed that returning to school remains one of his personal goals, years after leaving Kwara State Polytechnic without completing his studies.

Speaking in a preview of the Honest Brunch Podcast, the street pop artiste said financial difficulties forced him to abandon his education even though he had hoped to earn a degree.

According to Portable, he struggled to pay his tuition and survived by selling sachet water while trying to remain in school before eventually dropping out.

“I go still finish school as I dey like this. I no finish school,” he said.

He said he had no one to assist him financially, making it impossible to continue with his education.

“I no see anybody to sponsor me again. The school fees is high. I go still finish school as I dey like this,” he added.

Portable disclosed that he was admitted into Kwara State Polytechnic through the school’s indigene quota and studied Business Administration before ending his academic journey.

He admitted that leaving the institution is one decision he still regrets.

“Na Kwara Poly pain me pass. I be student… Na indigene this thing I use enter. I studied Business Administration,” he said.

Reflecting on his rise to fame, the singer said life has changed significantly, noting that although he was once labelled the least intelligent among his siblings, he now takes care of his father and supports his family financially.

“Person wey dem dey call olodo for my family na me still dey feed my papa now,” he said.

Portable also encouraged young people not to lose hope if they face setbacks in school, stressing that success can come through different paths and that education can still be completed later in life.

“It is not a must you finish school before you get am. You fit go get am from outside and come back finish school. I go still finish school as I dey like this,” Portable said.

The singer’s claims about his admission into Kwara State Polytechnic have not been independently verified.
