Resurfaced old tweets: More woes for Simi as NAPTIP moves to probe ‘child sexual abuse’ at mum’s daycare

National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has announced plans to investigate allegations of child sexual abuse and misconduct linked to a daycare owned by the mother of singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi.

The development follows renewed backlash against the singer after an old tweet about children at her mother’s daycare resurfaced, with some X users alleging it suggested inappropriate intent.

In a public notice via their X page, NAPTIP called on individuals with “factual information, evidence, direct knowledge” related to the allegations to reach out confidentially.

The agency said it would commence a thorough probe once credible reports are received, reaffirming its commitment to addressing all allegations involving child abuse and misconduct at daycares in Nigeria.

“Public Notice: We take all reports of child sexual abuse/misconduct seriously and are committed to investigating every credible claim,” the notice reads.

“Following recent public discussions and concerns raised regarding alleged incidents of child sexual abuse/misconduct in daycare settings in Nigeria, we are committed to thoroughly investigating credible report.

“We kindly request anyone with factual information, evidence, direct knowledge, or who was personally affected by the matters referenced in the viral posts or related experiences to kindly reach out to us confidentially. Via DM or email us info@naptip.gov.ng.”

Simi, however, dismissed the allegations of child sexual abuse, explaining that her old tweets merely reflected the playful nature of a cheeky young woman with nothing to conceal.

She maintained that the posts were never made with any inappropriate intent.
