Shine Rosman raises alarm over s3xual harassment surge

Nollywood Actress, Shine Rosman,  has expressed concern over the increasing rate of s3xual harassment in the country.

During an interview with Tolu Afilaka, the actress said harassment has become widely accepted and often ignored in some parts of Nigeria, especially in crowded public areas.

Rosman noted that many harassment cases, particularly those occurring in marketplaces, are rarely reported and receive little attention from the public.

She questioned the safety of women in the country, arguing that harassment in public spaces reflected the likelihood of more severe abuse occurring behind closed doors.

Rosman referenced experiences in areas such as Yaba, Lagos, where she said women were frequently subjected to inappropriate touching in crowded spaces, often without anyone stepping in to help.

She expressed concern that the inaction of authorities continued to leave women exposed to danger, questioning whether self-defence was gradually becoming their only means of protection.

”Do you know how bad s3xual harassment is in Lagos. Like go to Yaba, as a girl and see how you will be touched inappropriately.

“Everybody hearing this knows that it is true. But till today, nothing is being done about it. You’re walking in Yaba and people are touching you inappropriately and nothing will happen.

“If the government is not going to do anything, is not not ok for us to defend ourselves?”, she said.

She added that in 2026, s3xual harassment remained treated as a minor issue despite its implications for women’s safety.

“In 2026, in a country like Nigeria, s3xual harassment us still one of the most passive things.

“If a man can s3xually harass you, casually, during the day, what do you think he can do behind closed doors when no one is looking?,” she questioned.
