Skepta calls for international backing against injustice in Nigeria

British-Nigerian rapper Skepta has appealed to the international community to support Nigerians in the fight against injustice and poor governance in the country.

In a video that circulated widely on social media on Thursday, the music star reflected on the End SARS protests after seeing an old memory on his phone. According to him, the situation in Nigeria still reflects many of the same problems that sparked the demonstrations years ago.

“I just had a memory on my phone, when we were at the EndSars protest on ground and it just got me thinking man, I was like it still feels like, it’s just so much injustice still in Nigeria,” he said.

Skepta stated that he has consistently used his platform to speak against oppression through his music, performances, and public expressions.

“Whenever I can, whether it’s at my shows, verbally, imagery, whatever I can do, we’re going to speak up for injustice at all times,” he said.

He also pointed out that Nigerians often show concern for crises happening in other parts of the world, including Congo, Sudan, Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, and Cuba, while urging the world to also pay attention to the challenges facing Nigeria.

“Nigerians, we’re like that as people, whether that’s Congo, Sudan, Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, Cuba, we’re going to speak up, but please help us Nigerians, we need help too, we need people to speak up for us as well,” he said.

The rapper further noted that despite Nigerians’ resilience, the country still needs stronger international support and awareness regarding ongoing injustice.

“There’s so much injustice in Nigeria, we could go on for all day. This is my message to the people that please, I know that we’re resilient and we make everything look good, but we need help too, so please help us, help Nigeria speak up.”

Although the clip was not posted directly on Skepta’s verified social media pages, it gained traction after being reshared by several entertainment platforms in Nigeria and the UK.

Born Joseph Olaitan Adenuga Jr., Skepta has long embraced his Nigerian heritage and often references it in his music and public appearances. His comments come amid increasing conversations about hardship, accountability, and leadership in Nigeria.
