“Suffering not proof of love,” Timi Dakolo warns against abusive relationships

Popular Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has cautioned people against equating pain and suffering with genuine love, stressing that enduring abuse is not a demonstration of commitment.

The singer shared the message in a post on his X page, urging people not to remain in abusive relationships under the guise of patience or loyalty.

Dakolo, a father of three, emphasised that tolerating abuse should not be confused with patience, adding that destructive behaviour should not be dismissed as ordinary character flaws.

The singer also noted that individuals should not feel obligated to repair people with harmful tendencies, pointing out that even professional therapists sometimes reach a point where they have to walk away.

He wrote: “Dear anybody, suffering is not proof of love. The amount of abuse you can take is not what patience is all about. It is not your job to fix broken people. Destructive tendencies are not character flaws. Even a trained therapist gives up sometimes.”
