Award-winning Nigerian musician, Tiwa Savage has said Nigerian men can spend money but are not genuinely romantic.
In a recent interview on Thoughts In A Culli, the ‘Water and Garri’ hitmaker acknowledged their charisma and generosity but insisted they fall short when it comes to genuine romance.
The music star made it clear that their “lack of romance” is a key reason she’s currently avoiding relationships with Nigerian men.
“Nigerian men do have swag but they are not really romantic when it comes down to it. They know how to swag and splash cash but I am not looking for that,” she said.
Savage rose to prominence after releasing her breakout single ‘Kele Kele Love’ in 2010.
She has established herself as one of the most prominent names in the Nigerian music landscape. She has also won numerous global awards.
The singer tied the knot with Tunji ‘TeeBillz’ Balogun in 2013 and they welcomed their son Jamal, in 2015. They however divorced in 2018.
In December 2024, the singer opened up on the circumstances that led to their divorce, arguing that her ex-husband was responsible for it.
The songstress said at the time, she was struggling with postpartum depression after giving birth to their son.
“It was an eye-opener for me and it made me depressed for so long. It got me angry then I became the ‘African Bad Girl’,” she added.
“I thought to myself that after doing everything right I was still attacked. Then I started getting tattoos and wearing short skirts and bikini. I was just wild.”
