Toluwanisings’ widow, father-in-law resolve dispute over burial arrangements

The widow of late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings, Damilola Olayemi, has reached an agreement with her father-in-law to bury her husband at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a disagreement over his burial plans.

The development was announced on Sunday by Lanre Alewilese, a close associate and colleague of the deceased, in an Instagram video addressing the controversy.

The disagreement reportedly began after the singer’s family alleged in a viral interview that Damilola opposed the plan to bury her husband at their Ibadan residence and instead preferred that he be laid to rest in a cemetery.

However, Toluwanisings’ father reportedly maintained that his son should be taken to his hometown and buried beside his late mother if burial at the Ibadan residence was not possible.

The dispute generated widespread reactions on social media, with some users questioning the widow’s position and calling for an investigation into the singer’s sudden death.

Speaking on the matter, Alewilese described the disagreement between Damilola and her father-in-law as a misunderstanding that had since been resolved. He also appealed to Nigerians to stop criticising the widow during her period of grief.

“Please, for God’s sake, let peace reign. Damilola is very young for what she’s currently going through. I’m very close to the deceased; his wife is accommodating. All his band members can attest to this,” he said.

Alewilese further confirmed that both parties had agreed to bury the singer at his Ibadan residence, urging the public to allow his widow to mourn without further harassment.

“The disagreement between Toluwanisings’ father and his widow has been resolved. What happened was just a misunderstanding. The duo have agreed to bury Toluwanisings at his house,” Alewilese said.
