Nollywood actor Kola Olaiya has criticised veteran actor Pete Edochie, describing him as a proud person and alleging that his attitude has prevented him from paying respect to older colleagues in the film industry.
Olaiya, who claimed to have known Edochie for a long time, said pride was deeply rooted in the veteran actor’s character.
According to him, Edochie’s alleged reluctance to pay homage to senior colleagues suggests that he has forgotten that some practitioners were already in the profession long before he joined the industry.
“You see Pete Edochie, I say it confidently, he’s a proud person. I have known him for long, that pride is in his blood,” Olaiya said.
He further alleged that the actor’s attitude had made him overlook the contributions and seniority of those who paved the way in the Nigerian film industry.
The comments have brought attention to the issue of respect, seniority and relationships among veterans in Nollywood.
However, the allegations remain Olaiya’s personal assessment of Edochie, and no response from the veteran actor was included in the statement.
