[VIDEO] ‘You need N1.2bn to win senate seat’ – Ali Baba exposes

Veteran comedian Ali Baba has revealed the hefty financial costs associated with securing political positions in Nigeria.

During an appearance on the OUTSIDE THE BOX podcast, Ali Baba spoke about the deep-rooted corruption in Nigerian politics and among its leaders.

Drawing from his close ties with political figures, he claimed that a senatorial seat typically costs around ₦1.2 billion, while running for governor in some states could require between ₦20 to ₦25 billion.

He described Nigeria politics as a capital intensive project that is driving corruption in the country.

The veteran comedian further accused Nigerian political leaders of ignoring the people’s needs and focused only on projects that can provide money they can leverage on during the election season.

“To win the senatorial seat is now between N1.2bn. you need N1 or 2bn to win a Senate seat. To win a house of Rep, you need another 1billion.

“State House of Assembly you need N500 million. Governorship depends on the state. For Delta State you need like about N20bn, for Rivers you need a 25 billion. For some of those states in the North maybe 4 or 5 or 6 billion naira.

“So it’s a capital intensive project, which is what is driving the corruption in our country right now. So anytime somebody is in office, the person is not thinking of education, except if whatever he wants to do in education will provide some money that they can leverage on when the time for election comes”, he disclosed.
