Why I avoid social media — Bob-Manuel Udokwu

Nigerian actor Bob-Manuel Udokwu has explained why he has largely stayed away from social media, describing it as a space filled with unnecessary distractions.

In a recent Instagram post, the veteran filmmaker said many of the issues that trend online have little or no connection to the daily struggles faced by Nigerians.

He argued that such discussions often dominate public attention while consuming both time and data.

“Social media has become something else in Nigeria,” he wrote.

“Most times things that have little or no relevance to the day to day struggles of the people go viral and consume valuable time and data from the same traumatized people.”

Udokwu also expressed concern about the increasing level of online bullying, name-calling, and toxic interactions on various platforms.

He said his decision to remain silent online was intentional, noting that he preferred to observe conversations from the sidelines while focusing on his professional work.

However, he hinted that growing demand from fans may push him to become more active going forward.

“It baffles me! Too much dragging and trolling everywhere! I really don’t regret my choice to stay quiet and read from the sidelines while the job is done,” he added.

“I am sure you would agree with me on this? However due to popular demand I will be more active in posting engaging my fans from now on….. How una see am.”
