Content creator Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi, popularly known as Isbae U, has explained how he developed his popular interview series, Curiosity Made Me Ask.
Isbae U disclosed this during an interview with Morayo Afolabi-Brown on The Morayo Show, published on YouTube.
The skit maker said he experimented with several areas of entertainment, including acting, singing and rap, before eventually finding a format that suited him.
He explained that he wanted to establish an identity beyond being recognised simply as a skit maker and was searching for an idea that would distinguish him from others in the industry.
“I was just finding myself. I was in that process. Before that, I was singing; before that, rapping. I was just finding myself,” he said.
He added, “There was a day I said to someone that I was done being mediocre, being average. I wanted to do something different. I didn’t want to just be considered part of them, part of the skit makers, one of them.”
According to Isbae U, the concept for the show was influenced by American comedian Zach Galifianakis’ interview programme, Between Two Ferns.
“I saw a show that I used to watch a long time ago. It’s called Between Two Ferns by Zach Galifianakis. So when I saw the show, I loved it. I thought, ‘Oh, this is something I can do.’ Even though the guy didn’t even do it as much as I’m doing it now,” he explained.
Since launching Curiosity Made Me Ask, Isbae U has hosted conversations with several prominent figures, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, veteran actor Pete Edochie and entertainer Charly Boy.
He said the programme was designed to expose audiences to aspects of celebrities’ personalities and lives that are rarely seen in traditional interviews.
“The idea of Curiosity Made Me Ask is to show you another part of this celebrity you’ve not seen,” he said.
Isbae U also acknowledged that he sometimes feels nervous when interviewing older and more established personalities, although he said many of his guests have been receptive to him.
“Even time. Especially when it comes to people. “Especially when it comes to people that are way older than me,”he said when asked if he gets nervous.
He further revealed that his focus on Curiosity Made Me Ask does not mean he has abandoned other forms of content creation.
According to him, he has continued working behind the scenes by writing stories for other content creators and assisting them with developing their material, while also planning to explore additional content formats.
“A lot of people thought or think i have stopped creating and just doing curiosity Made Me Ask. But low-key, there are people i write stories for, people i help with thier stories,” he said.
