Nigerian Afrobeats singer Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has revealed that he lost his mother earlier this year, explaining that her death was responsible for the break he took from music.
The singer made the disclosure on Friday, September 25, while responding to a fan on X who suggested that he had been away from the music scene because he was working on a new album.
Kizz Daniel clarified that his absence was instead linked to the loss of his mother.
“I paused for my Mom, not an album … Lost her this year, but I gotta keep moving for the rest of the family … sorry I came late this year,” he wrote.
The revelation comes as the singer makes his return to the music scene with his latest single, “Owo Oluwa,” featuring Young Jonn, Krizbeatz and Wave Choir. The song, released on September 16, serves as the lead single for his forthcoming album, Radio Gidi.
“Owo Oluwa” centres on gratitude, faith and divine protection, marking the beginning of the rollout for Kizz Daniel’s upcoming project.
Kizz Daniel’s revelation also comes about two years after the death of his mother-in-law in 2024. He had previously spoken about how personal losses, including the death of his father in 2015 and one of his triplets in 2021, have affected his life and music.
Despite the difficult period, the singer has resumed his musical activities and is preparing for the release of Radio Gidi.
