Nigerian music star Davido has said he is rethinking his previous desire to enter politics, pointing to concerns about how celebrities have performed in that arena.
The Afrobeats singer shared this during a recent livestream on Twitch with streamer Davrel, where he spoke about his long-standing ambition to get involved in partisan politics. Over time, he explained, his outlook has changed as he watches other entertainers move into politics without achieving much success.
“Before, I wanted to go into politics but honestly, now, I see it two ways. All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built, it is tricky because the way people look at things; the superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful,” he said.
He added that both his legacy in entertainment and the realities of the political landscape have made him more careful about making such a move.
