If you have taken a course, learned a new skill, completed a professional certification or handled new responsibilities at work, your CV should reflect these changes.
Leaving out your recent achievements can make your CV look outdated. Take time to add relevant skills, projects, responsibilities and accomplishments that show how you have grown professionally.
2. You are applying for jobs but getting little response
Sending out several applications without getting interview invitations can be a sign that your CV needs some attention.
Your CV may not clearly show the skills and experience employers are looking for. It may also contain too much old or irrelevant information.
Before applying for your next job, review your CV and adjust it to highlight the experience and skills that are most relevant to the position.
3. Your career goals have changed
Your CV should match the kind of opportunities you want to pursue. If you are moving into a new industry, changing career paths or targeting a different type of role, your old CV may no longer present you in the right way.
Update your professional summary, skills and work experience to reflect your current career direction. Focus on the parts of your background that can support the type of job you are now seeking.
Keep your CV updated
You do not have to wait until you are unemployed or searching for a new job before updating your CV. Reviewing it every few months makes it easier to add new achievements while they are still fresh.
A current CV can also save you time when an interesting job opportunity comes up unexpectedly. More importantly, it ensures that your professional experience is presented accurately and clearly.
