Not every morning starts with energy and excitement. Sometimes, you wake up feeling tired, uninterested or simply unable to get yourself moving. This can happen after a stressful period, a poor night’s sleep or a busy routine.
Instead of forcing yourself to do everything at once, start with small steps that can help you get into the right frame of mind.
Here are six things to do when you wake up feeling unmotivated:
1. Get out of bed
It may be tempting to stay in bed and keep scrolling through your phone, but getting up is a good first step. Open the curtains, make your bed and move around for a few minutes to help yourself wake up properly.
2. Drink some water
Have a glass of water when you wake up. It is a simple way to start your morning and can help you feel more refreshed, especially if you did not drink enough water the previous day.
3. Give yourself some quiet time
Checking social media immediately can make it harder to focus on your own day. Give yourself some quiet time before opening your apps, especially if you already feel mentally tired.
4. Start with one easy task
You do not need to tackle your entire to-do list immediately. Choose one simple task, such as taking a shower, preparing breakfast or organising your room. Completing something small can give you the push to do more.
5. Play music you enjoy
Put on a song or playlist that lifts your mood while you get ready. Music can make an ordinary morning feel more enjoyable and help you become more active.
6. Give yourself a realistic plan
Instead of expecting yourself to accomplish everything, choose two or three important things to focus on. A simple plan can make the day feel more manageable and prevent you from becoming overwhelmed.
Feeling unmotivated in the morning does not mean you will have a bad day. Give yourself time to get moving, focus on small steps and avoid putting too much pressure on yourself. Sometimes, motivation comes after you start rather than before.
