[Couple Spotlight] How a revelational dream I had back in school days affirmed my husband was Mr Right – Dcn Soneye

Pastor and Dcn. Oladapo Soneye’s relationship journey dates back to their days at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MA POLY). Both were members of the Redeemed Christian Fellowship (RCF), a campus outreach of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

While it was almost a case of instant connection between the lovebirds, however, Mrs Soneye still had her fears somewhere in between. But rather than worry, she took the case to God in prayer who through a revelational dream revealed to her, that Mr Soneye was indeed the Mr Right she has always longed for.

It’s been 17 years of being in each other’s lives and will be 15 years of a blissful union this December.

Despite both been active in career and spiritual callings, they still nurture their feelings for each other like they just met. Like every other relationships, they’ve had their fair share of the bad and good but those moments only strengthened their union the more.

Both are not just friends but gist partners and their spark is not ready to dim despite the arrival of kids that they waited patiently on God for before having.

Read the Soneye’s beautiful love story below in full:

  • Can you take us back to how your love story started?

Back in School days. We met in School fellowship. RCF (Redeemed Christian Fellowship)Mapoly.

  • What was the moment you knew “this is the one” ?

I wanted to be sure I was taking the right step. So I went to God in prayers for guidance. That night I had a revelational dream where I saw both of us on a journey we started together, along the line, I left him for another brother in this same fellowship but my journey with the brother was full of pains, worrisome and tiring.

  • By the time we got out of the journey I saw my husband waiting for me at the destination.

I was surprised and regretted my decision of leaving him to follow the other brother and I woke up.

May God be praised forever!

  • How many years have you been together?

17years. But married for 14years. Our marriage will be 15 years by December by God’s grace.

  • What has been your secret to keeping the spark alive all these years? Especially after the arrival of kids?

We were friends before we got married so we continued the friendship. Our marriage is not the regular ‘husband and wife’ stuff.

We see ourselves as friends. We can gist for Africa. We understand almost everything the same way. So we flow naturally.

  • How do you both make each other feel special, even in small ways? What fun habits have stayed with you throughout your marriage?

We wear same clothes or color and color from day one till now. We slap each other’s bums (gbadi-gbadi), play games (Ludo, whot etc) together.

  • How do you handle disagreements or tough moments now, compared to your early years?

Simple. My husband can say sorry for as long as you allow him.

  • What’s one thing your partner still does that melts your heart?

His quick and soft way of saying sorry intentionally over and over again

  • What was one of the biggest challenges you faced together, and how did you overcome it?

Having issues with child bearing. We overcame by the help of God.

It’s a testimony.

  • What advice would you give to younger couples hoping for a lasting marriage?

Make your spouse your friend. Pray&play together. Love sacrificially. Respect intentionally.

  • If you could sum up your marriage in one word or sentence, what would it be?

Heaven on earth
