[Couple Spotlight] ‘We listen more, react less,’ Mrs Odumuyiwa shares secrets to her happy home

At a time when marriages are almost packing up as soon as they are formally solemnized, some couples still know how to hold theirs down to stand the test of time.

Mrs Odumuyiwa met her husband three years ago at an IT training center where according to her, Mr Odumuyiwa won her heart by genuinely looking out for her. Knowing that they are meant for each other from the word go, both wasted no time in signing the dotted lines to formalize their blossoming relationship.

It’s been two years of living together as husband and wife and we can tell the love is even stronger than it was when their parts crossed at the IT training center years back.

Sit back, relax and enjoy another captivating true life love story below:

  • Can you take us back to how your love story started?

We met at an IT training center. It wasn’t a love at first sight thingy. We were both doing our thing while minding the business that brought us there😆 I started staying back after my class to do more and we got talking from there.

  • What was the moment you knew “this is the one” ?

It was how he looked out for me “he still does”😊🤗

  • How many years have you been together?

We’ve been married for two years, but we’ve been together for 3 years total

  •  What has been your secret to keeping the spark alive all these years? Especially after the arrival of kids?

Going on dates and making time for each other. We’ve learned to prioritize our relationship and communicate openly.

  • How do you both make each other feel special, even in small ways? What fun habits have stayed with you since saying ‘I do’ to each other?

We leave (love, appreciation, encouragement) notes for each other we discuss issues of concern over dinner.

  •  How do you handle disagreements or tough moments?

We’ve learned to listen more and react less

  • What’s one thing your partner still does that melts your heart?

He still looks out for me just like he did when we first started dating

  •  What was one of the biggest challenges you faced together, and how did you overcome it?

We faced a tough time when it was time for us to relocate (move houses) we communicated openly and made plan to make the transition smoother

  • What advice would you give to younger couples hoping for a lasting marriage?

Communicate openly, spend quality time together, laugh and pray often as marriage is a journey, not a destination.

  •  If you could sum up your marriage in one word or sentence, what would it be?

Our marriage is built on love, trust, accountability and openness. Together, we will reach the sky.
