He was initially furious with the designer that his outfit wasn’t ready for collection at the scheduled time. He was ranting about the delay and how it might affect attending the wedding the material was actually bought for.
While he was at it, a lady, who happens to be the tailor’s friend and was helping with alterations in her shop asked him to calm down while they make finishing touches on the material.
At the intervention of the designer’s friend, he became unexpectedly calm and started conversing with her in no time. That gave the designer some time to quickly fix what remained of the outfit.
After eventually collecting his outfit, he exchanged contacts with the one who had kept him emotionally intact while his outfit was being perfected. The sweet conversation didn’t end at the designer’s shop. It continued on phone for years and conversations shifted from what transpired at the designer’s shop to something much more interesting.
In few months they moved from casual conversations to deep emotional talks that saw them become real friends and subsequently as Mr and Mrs Adebowale. It’s been 11 years of that shop incident and eight years of doing life together as lovers, husband and wife and parents to beautiful kids.
Goes again to buttress my points here that love affair is never confined to certain place. Being open-minded and receptive to courtesies always is key. Keep your head up, Mr and Mrs Right will locate you in the most unexpected way soon.
Come with me, let’s delve into my spotlighted couple’s full story!
1. Can you take us back to how your love story started?
Mr Adebowale: We met at a tailoring shop in Lagos. I went there to collect an outfit I had made for a wedding, and she was there helping her friend with some alterations. We started talking because my clothes were not ready and I was complaining about waiting.
Mrs Adebowale: That day, he was talking too much about how long he had been waiting. I told him to be patient, and we both laughed. We continued talking while waiting, exchanged numbers and kept in touch after that.
2. What was the moment you knew “this is the one”?
Mr Adebowale: I knew when I noticed how she handled pressure. Even when things were not going her way, she didn’t take it out on everyone around her. She had a calm way of dealing with things.
Mrs Adebowale: For me, it was the way he treated my younger siblings. He never acted like they were a burden when they came around. He made them feel welcome, and that meant a lot to me.
3. How many years have you been together?
Mr Adebowale: We have been together for 11 years.
Mrs Adebowale: We have been married for 8 years.
4. What has helped you keep your marriage strong over the years?
Mr Adebowale: We talk about things. Even when the matter is small, we don’t allow it to build up.
Mrs Adebowale: We also give each other space when it is needed. Sometimes you just need a little time to yourself.
5. What small thing does your partner do that still makes you smile?
Mr Adebowale: One of my love language is receiving gifts and my wife takes that personal..she is great at giving me thoughtful gifts. Sometimes she will come home with something small and say, “I saw this and thought of you.” just randomly.
Mrs Adebowale: He likes sending me funny pictures during the day. Sometimes I’m busy and suddenly I see something from him that makes me laugh.
6. How has marriage changed the way you handle disagreements?
Mr Adebowale: I have learned not every disagreement needs to become a big fight. Sometimes you just have to listen.
Mrs Adebowale: I have also learned not to bring up old issues whenever we have a new problem. Once we settle something, we should leave it there.
7. What is something about your partner that you still appreciate after eight years of marriage?
Mr Adebowale: She is very thoughtful. She notices when people need help and usually does something about it.
Mrs Adebowale: He is dependable. When he tells me he will handle something, I don’t have to keep reminding him.
8. What has been one difficult season you have faced together?
Mr Adebowale: There was a period when we were both very busy with work and family responsibilities. We hardly had enough time for ourselves.
Mrs Adebowale: We had to make a conscious effort to reconnect. Even when we couldn’t go anywhere, we started creating small moments at home.
9. What advice would you give to couples who are just starting out?
Mr Adebowale: Don’t be in a hurry to prove anything to people. Build your marriage at your own pace.
Mrs Adebowale: Learn to enjoy the ordinary days together. Marriage is mostly made up of those days.
10. If you had to describe your marriage in one sentence, what would you say?
Mr Adebowale: It has been a good journey.
Mrs Adebowale: We started as two people who met by chance, and eight years later, I still enjoy having him as my person.
