1,067 candidates fail 2025 bar final exams, 212 bag first class

About 1,067 candidates have failed the 2025 bar final examination, according to results announced by the Council of Legal Education (CLE) on Monday.

A statement signed by the secretary to the council and director of administration, said a total of 7,602 candidates sat for the examinations held in December 2025.

The results showed that 212 candidates earned first class honours, while 1,216 obtained second class upper.

Another 2,961 candidates graduated with second class lower, 1,622 passed, and 314 recorded conditional passes.

A total of 210 candidates were absent, while the council put the overall pass rate at 79.1 percent, representing a decline from the previous year.

The CLE congratulated the successful candidates, describing their performance as a product of hard work and dedication.

“Information regarding the screening process and the schedule for the Call to the Bar ceremony will be communicated to candidates via their individual portals on the Nigerian Law School website,” the statement reads.

However, the 2025 pass rate marks a drop compared to the November 2024 bar finals, where about 84 per cent of the 7,134 candidates who sat for the examination passed.

In 2024, 260 candidates made first class, 1,193 had second class upper, 2,638 earned second class lower, 1,595 passed, 327 had conditional passes, while 940 failed and 181 were absent.
